Hello Everyone! I am currently having some technical issues with my transcription service I was originally using. But since I was already behind on posts, I decided to go ahead and just the episode links to Spotify and just post the rather horribly transcribed text as it stands now, with the understanding that once my finals are done this week, I will be uploading and fixing the missing posts by hand and attempting to untangle the rather horrible looking transcript I was given down below. For now, please enjoy the episode, and laugh at what was created.

Cross wires and crank up the bandwidth, it’s time for Architecture, Coffee, & Ink.
30 second Intro song
Hello, this is Hollywood C. and you’re listening to Architecture, Coffee, & Ink. A podcast dedicated to introducing concepts, detailing out designs, and tackling the architecture you might not realize the meaning behind. I’m your hostess and I am here today to start introducing you to the designs that make you wonder why.
tag line: So I ask you to brew your coffee, grab your sketch book and pen, and let’s begin.
Welcome to episode 8! Welcome listeners old and new! This week, I am going to be joined by Chuck Conrad, my guest speaker who is answering a few questions about IT, based on over 30 years of experience in the field. But first, I just want to introduce the topic, and say I had I lovely time at the ASLA conference! I mentioned last week that I was going to the 2021 American Society of Landscape Architects Conference. If you are just tuning in, and probably haven’t listened to the backlog of episodes, I am a DUAL student, so I am getting a degree in Architecture AND Landscape Architecture. So I get the exciting privilege of meeting individuals from both disciplines, and this past weekend I got the chance to go the conference. In the past, I have always had a conflict-normally like a midterm or a test, so this, my last year of grad school, I got to go. And it was really worth the drive and exhaustion. I got to meet some amazing people, hear wonderful speakers, and see some of the best booths. If you get the chance, you should totally go. But, because of this, I am actually finishing up the audio and recording for the episode, not at my normal spot. I actually used a recorder during this interview, so the quality maybe slightly different than normal-but in some situations, particularly as I hope to record a few tours over the break, this may pop up more and more-again, each episode, I learn just a little bit more about how to podcast correctly.

So, this episode, I actually ended up interviewing my dad-for those who noticed the same last name, yes, Chuck Conrad is my dad. While, I mentioned that he has over 30+ years of experience in IT, he also has a lot of strong background in various other roles. He used to weld and do ironwork way back long before I was born, and has accumulated a lot of knowledge in architecture and construction through either jobs or on-hand training. He and my mom were the first to teach me how to tell the difference in a spark plug and not to use too much solder on my motherboards. He also taught me, even how to build basic constructions I did in my last studio project, to how to frame out fireplaces and build out false walls. So when I needed someone to start the conversation about IT and architecture, he was clearly my first choice, because while I may have a stronger understanding in some areas of IT solely due to growing up with it, not all of my listeners will. And as I mentioned vaguely, I have noticed a lot of mistakes and issues in designs in schools, where students don’t take into consideration what infrastructure is needed to support your IT department. I will be posting a follow up episode next week, where I am going to go into more depth about data centers and architecture, and other areas we talk about. Since it is Thanksgiving break in America, I will have more time, so I may post either a double feature, or an extra-long episode. Not really sure which one. So, without further ado, here is the interview!
Thank you once again for tuning in, Once again a big thank you to all my listeners! A quick call to action: Please rate and review, share with your friends, neighbors, and family, your professor-whomever you think needs some architecture in their life. We again have a Facebook page and private group, both of which are under the same name: Architecture, Coffee, & Ink. The answer to the question-who is the host-is Hollywood, like the city. And second question is just your opinion, and I might just use it as a recommendation for a show with a little shout out. If you want to either be featured, or have a case study suggestion or perhaps just want to share a story of your favorite design or experience, you can either find me at Architecture, Coffee, & Ink the website is: https://architectureink.design.blog/ .
Insta is now architecturecoffeeandink! Just like the email address! Everything will be linked in the show notes. You can also email me at architecturecoffeeandink@gmail.com all spelt out without the ampersands or commas. I know that I am forgetting something, but oh well. I will probably, possibly be adding the pictures from my reviews, and everything else, while I am working this week, But thank you again for joining me-
May your coffee mugs be full, and your ink wells never run dry.
